Nowadays, Halloween has begun to rival the Christmas season as the most popular  time of the year to visit Disneyland. 2 - Grim Grinning Ghosts  38:47

Although Halloween was not generally celebrated in Disneyland until the 1990's, since 1969 a distinctively Halloween-esque attraction has been enjoyed by parks guests all year round, namely, The Haunted Mansion. The theme music from this  frightfully fun adventure is now one of the most universally recognized songs from a Disney attraction.

3 - Grim Grinning Ghosts - Christmas  1:27

Ever since the characters from Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" have taken up annual residence in Disneyland throughout the months of October through December, the lines between the Halloween and Christmas festivities have become somewhat blurred, proven by this Christmas version of Grim Grinning Ghosts.

4 - Haunted Mansion Holiday Music Box - Area Background Music  7:43

From late September through January, Disneyland's ghostly manor gets even more spirited than usual, as the classic Haunted Mansion attraction is transformed into a nightmare before Christmas. The exterior of the mansion is adorned in holiday lights, and an eerie Christmas music box can be heard around the mansion grounds.

5 - Haunted Mansion Holiday Scarols - Area Background Music  17:44

For the first year of Haunted Mansion Holiday, the music heard in the outdoor queue was a collection of classic Christmas carols, performed in true Halloween fashion. For guests to sing-along with the new spooky lyrics written for these songs, several of the lamposts were adorned with oversized scrolls containing corresponding sheet music.

6 - Haunted Mansion Holiday - Season One  16:19

For the holiday season, Jack Skellington and the many colorful characters featured in Tim Burton's, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" miraculously transform every room throughout the Haunted Mansion with a myriad of macabre holiday decorations, and as a finale, the musical graveyard is covered in a dusting of ghostly white snow.

7 - Haunted Mansion Holiday - Jack's Back!  1:00

Each September since 2001, the Haunted Mansion has closed for approximately two weeks for is annual transformation back into "Haunted Mansion Holiday." The yearly return of this fan favorite is highly anticipated by many Southern California residents, and is heavily promoted on local television and radio stations throughout the region.

8 - Haunted Mansion Holiday  16:25

Following its overwhelming success, the Haunted Mansion Holiday returned for a second season in 2002. For this incarnation, a new musical soundtrack was composed by John Debney based on the score by Danny Elfman, the original composer from the 1993 motion picture, and this version of the soundtrack has been used every year since.

9 - Haunted Mansion Holiday - Breakdown Spiels  1:02

No one can ever replace the amazing vocal performance of the legendary Paul Frees, but voice-over actor extraordinaire, Corey Burton, does a remarkable job at capturing the proper spirit and inflection of the original ghost host. 10 - The French Market - Holiday Area Background Musi54:09

From early fall and through the entire holiday season, the French Market restaurant is the official greeting area for Jack Skellington. To provide the proper atmosphere, music from several Danny Elfman motion picture scores  is used, including Edward Scissorhands, the Nightmare Before Christmas and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

11 - Main Street Pumpkin Festival  10:15

Disneyland has been celebrating Halloween in a major way for many years now, and like the Christmas season, Main Street is the most decked out of all the areas in the park. Over 300 Jack-O-Lanterns are displayed up and down the boulevard, and for several years a special ceremony took place to crown the queen of the Pumpkin Festival.

12 - Big Thunder Ranch - Woody's Halloween Roundup  23:52

For many years during the fall months, a Halloween festival was held at Big Thunder Ranch. Later this event centered around the characters Woody and Jessie from Pixar's "Toy Story" films. Here one would find live entertainment, pumpkin carving, character meet and greet opportunities and other activities geared toward younger guests.

13 - Big Thunder Ranch - Halloween Carnival  40:01

For its final three seasons, Big Thunder Ranch set the stage for an even more elaborate fall holiday celebration. In addition to pumpkin carving, there were carnival games, a live magic show, Disney characters dressed in their Halloween attire and at the Magic Cauldron Sideshow, favorite Disney villains would make a magical appearance.

14 - Billy Hill and the Haunted Hillbillies  4:05

Beginning in 2012, Disneyland's popular bluegrass band, Billy Hill and the Hillbillies would perform at the Big Thunder Ranch Halloween Carnival, under the moniker Billy Hill and the Haunted Hillbillies. In addition to songs from their regular repertoire, the would perform a few spooky selections, including "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

15 - Halloween Carnival Magic Show  9:55

At the Big Thunder Ranch main stage, a special kid-friendly magic show was presented during the Halloween Carnival events. A master of prestidigitation would first charm the audience with traditional card tricks, then would impress them by levitating his assistant, and for the grand finale, he would make Mickey Mouse magically appear.

16 - The Magic Cauldron - Conjure a Villain  2:51

A very popular attraction at the Big Thunder Ranch Halloween Carnival was located inside a colorful sideshow tent containing a mysterious bubbling cauldron. A guest was selected from the audience to wave a magic wand over the cauldron, casting a spell to bring forth one of five famous Disney Villains who appeared before your very eyes.

17 - Ghost Riders In The Sky  12:51

Stan Jones wrote this famous cowboy ballad in 1948, just eight years before going to work at the Disney Studio as both a songwriter and actor. For years, this spooky song has also been heard throughout Disneyland, having been featured in The Country Bear Vacation Hoedown and in the area music along the Frontierland promenade.

18 - The Halloween Tree  2:27

Every fall since 2007, a specially designated oak tree located along the Frontierland promenade has been  festively decorated with small pumpkin ornaments and hundreds of orange pin lights. This is in tribute to acclaimed author, and personal friend to Walt Disney, Ray Bradbury, recalling his popular children's novel, "The Halloween Tree."

19 - Pioneer Mercantile - Halloween Sing-Along  21:29

On the back wall of Frontierland's Pioneer Mercantile is a stretched rawhide screen where scenes from "Old Yeller" and "Pocahontas" are projected on a constant loop. During the Halloween season, the normal film clips are replaced with a repeat showing of the 1998 Disney Sing-Along Songs video, "Happy Haunting Party at Disneyland."

20 - Mickey's Trick-or-Treat PartyArea Background Music  56:14

Since 2010, in the weeks leading up to Halloween, a very popular special ticketed after hours party has been held in Disneyland on selected nights. These events include an array of spooktacular entertainment offerings including trick-or treating, character greetings, live musical performances, a special parade and fireworks display.

21 - Mickey's Toontown - Halloween Area Background Music  43:01

Each of Disneyland's themed lands have special entertainment offerings during Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party. In Mickey's Toontown, a collection of spooky songs set the mood as guest have the opportunity to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy Pluto, and other popular Disney friends, each dressed in their Halloween costumes.

22 - Mickey's Costume Party Cavalcade  8:19

Guests at Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party are encouraged to wear costumes, and as a special offering during the evenings festivities, Mickey and friends arrive on Main Street in a colorful cavlacade wearing their own Halloween appropriate attire. The focus of these special events is on the not so scary, family friendly side of Halloween.

23 - Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party - Riverfront Music  37:41

During Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party, The Rivers of America are covered with an eerie layer of ghostly fog, and the Frontierland landing is transformed into a special photo taking location called Pirate Wharf. Here guests can say cheese with favorite Disney pirates including Captain Hook and the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow.

24The Cadaver Dans  11:06

From September through October, the Dapper Dans will often take on the grusome persona of the Cadaver Dans. Dressed in grave digger attire, with pale make-up and dark eyes, they sing a collection of songs appropriate for All Hallows Eve, and during special events they perform moonlight concerts along the Rivers of America.

25 - Space Mountain Ghost Galax2:57

In 2007, Space Mountain in Hong Kong Disneyland received a Halloween make-over. Through special lighting, music and projections, the attraction was transformed  into a frightning new adventure featuring a menacing extra-terrestrial phantom. The same experience premiered in California in 2009, and has returned every year since.

26 - Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy - Area Sounds  2:14

After dark, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy takes on an even more frighting ambiance. The Space Mountain exterior is eerily illuminated in alternating shades of blue and green as the intimidating sounds of a looming intergalactic space creature, backed by a series of otherworldly monotones, can be heard throughout the surrounding area.

27 - Monsters University Halloween Dance Party  1:10:27

In 2013, yet another entertainment offering became part of the Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party. At the Tomorrowland Terrace stage guests were invited to join Mike, Sulley and the Monsters University cheerleaders for a  family-friendly frat party. Between shows, a live DJ played favorite pop tunes as the cheerleaders danced among the guest.

28 - Ride of the Headless Horsema5:08

A tradition that began in Walt Disney World finally made its way to Disneyland in 2016. Before the start of the new Frightfully Fun Parade, with a flaming Jack-O-Lantern in hand, the legendary Headless Horseman from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" gallops up and down Main Street in search of a new head. Maybe he will choose yours!

29 - Frightly Fun Parade  9:50

In 2016, Disneyland debuted a an all-new Halloween parade. This offering exclusively for Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party guests contains elements from earlier parades at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris, with characters from the "Nightmare Before Christmas,"  followed by a Haunted Mansion segment and a salute to Disney villains.

30 - Halloween Screams: A Villainous Surprise in the Skie14:03

Beginning in 2009, a special Halloween and Disney villain themed fireworks display has been held nightly throughout October. It has also been held in conjuction with the after hours Halloween events since 2010. The show is hosted by Jack Skellington himself, and the music comes from popular Disney films and attractions.

31 - Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party - Villain's Farewell  3:07

Disneyland often closes out its special events with what is commonly referred to as a "Kiss Goodnight." At the conclusion of every Trick-or-Treat Party, at the base of the Disneyland Railroad station, a rogues gallery of famous Disney Villains make one final appearance to close out the evening's festivities with a special musical ceremony.
