As much as Walt Disney was a student of history, he was equally fascinated with the possibilities of tomorrow. The original Tomorrowland offered a vista into a world of marvelous ideas, honoring the achievements of mankind and offering predictions of fantastic innovations in atomic science, transportation and space travel.

2 - World of Tomorrow Theme  3:01

Walt Disney's land of the future was dedicated with the hope for a peaceful and unified world of tomorrow. Displayed at the entrance to the original Tomorrowland was an Avenue of Flags, flying the colors of all the world's nations, and a kinetic World Clock that could pinpoint the correct time for any point on planet earth.

3 - Tomorrowland Spaceport  2:34

The iconic landmark from the original 1950's Tomorrowland was a towering full-scale model rocket ship poised for blast off. It was positioned in front of a spaceport of the future where guests could board the passenger cabin of a TWA Moonliner and experience a simulated flight into the upper stratosphere; destination... moon.

4 - TWA Rocket to the Moon  9:06

Tomorrowland's moon flight took place in the far off future year of 1986, when Haley's Comet was set to return. The sensation of space travel was visually achieved with projected images on two screens located at the floor and the ceiling of the passenger cabin, one to see where you've been and one to see where you were going.

5 - Space Station X-1 - Satellite View of America  41:30

Space Station X-1 offered guests a satellite view of America as it might appear from outerspace. This was all based on prediction when the attraction first premiered in 1955, as it predated the first actual satellites in space by several years. It was only one of the many predictions made in Tomorrowland that would be realized in future.

6 - Kaiser Aluminum Hall of Fame - The Wishful Knight  1:47

There were several corporate sponsored exhibits in the early Tomorrowland, including the Dutch Boy Paint Gallery. The Crane Bathroom of Tomorrow, the American Dairy Association's Milk Bar and the Kaiser Aluminum Hall of Fame where a wishful knight, a fire fighter and an astronaut each promoted the metal of tomorrow.

7 - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit  2:22

At the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit, guests toured the movie sets and viewed many of the actual props used in the making of Walt Disney's 1954 feature film, including the animated giant squid that attacked the submarine Nautilus, and Captain Nemo's pipe organ prominently displayed in the grand Victorian salon deck.

8 - The World Beneath Us - Richfield Show Announcement  3:29

Richfield Oil Corporation presented two early Tomorrowland attractions. One of these was an enlightening animated film presentation entitled, "The World Beneath Us," which chronicled the historical origins of our modern day fossil fuels. Also on display were several detailed dioramas and a large model of the earth's crust.

9 - Richfield Autopia - Safety Announcements  2:18

Autopia is a model superhighway of tomorrow, where children of all ages take to the wheel in gas-powered miniature sports cars, driving through tunnels, overpasses, and across the many bridges that span the scenic Tomorrowland lake. It is also the only remaining Tomorrowland attraction to premiere on opening day in 1955.

10 - Thimble Drome Flight Circle  1:13

The Flight Circle was located at the base of Tomorrowland's towering Moonliner. Here, model aircraft and motor boats were demonstrated daily. At the adjacent Hobbyland venue guests could purchase their very own models to bring home. In 1965 a rocket fueled jet pack was also tested here, and a man actually flew over Disneyland.

11 - The Astro-Jets - Futuristic Hoedown  0:44

This unusual hoedown was featured during a tour of Disneyland featured on Walt Disney's weekly TV series. The original spinning jet ride was located at ground level in the center of Tomorrowland. When Tomorrowland was refurbished in 1967, the new jets were positioned atop a two story structure for an even more breathtaking flight.

12 - Skyway to Fantasyland - Tomorrowland Terminal  2:51

One of the first new additions to Tomorrowland following the opening of Disneyland was the skyway. This suspended chair lift brought guests on a one-way trip to and from Fantasyland, affording breathtaking views of the park. Beginning in 1959, a dramatic element was added, as guests traveled through the cavity of the Matterhorn.

13 - Monsanto House of the Future  4:17

Monsanto Chemical Corporation sponsored this amazing, all-plastic, model home of the future where America was first introduced to microwave ovens, Tupperware, and many synthetic fibers such as polyester and rayon. Highlights also included a height adjustable bathroom sink, an intercom system and a wall mounted TV monitor.

14 - The Tomorrowland Art Corner  1:35

At the Tomorrowland Art Corner, guests could pose for an on-the-spot caricature drawing by a real Disney artist, or purchase an original animation production cell for around $2.00. These cells would reach tens of thousands of dollars at auction today. Artwork from Walt Disney's latest animation productions was also on display.

15 - Tomorrowland Viewliner  2:19

Providing an early vision of tomorrow's transportation, the Viewliner was Tomorrowland's original train of the future before the famous Disneyland Monorail would replace it just two years after is debuted. These streamlined, diesel powered locomotives sped passengers around Autopia highways and the Tomorrowland lake.

16 - The Disneyland Alweg Monorail System - Introduction  1:40

When the Disneyland Monorail premiered at Disneyland in 1959, it was the first daily operating system of its kind built in the western hemisphere. It served as a model for future transportation, providing an efficient  answer to the ever-increasing problem of traffic congestion in America's growing urban communities.

17 - The Disneyland Alweg Monorial  5:37

The sleek monorail trains of Disneyland's "highway in the sky" carry guests along a scenic two and a half mile route through Tomrrowland and the city of Anaheim. After the beamway was expanded in 1961, it provided not only a panoramic view of the park, but convienient transportation to and from the Disneyland Hotel.

18 - The Monorail Song & Nation on Wheels  4:12

When the Monorail made its debut in 1959, a new theme song was composed to set the mood for this innovative new transportation system as it was showcased before a television audience. The Monorail Song, as well as the song, Nation on Wheels, would thereafter be used whenever the monorail would make a TV appearance.

19 - Motor Boat Cruise & Submarine Voyage - Area Music  4:40

Diesel powered motor boats carried passengers along a scenic waterway separating Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Cruising beneath the pylons of the Monorail and the overpasses of the Autopia highway, junior sailors navigated their craft around buoys, water markers, rocks, rapids and a series of other course obstacles.

20 - Submarine Voyage Queue Area Announcements  3:31

As part of a major expansion project, the Disneyland submarines first took sail in the summer of '59 as one of the park's very first 'E' ticket experiences. The flagship of this, the world's eighth largest undersea fleet, was named the Nautilus, in honor of the real-life atomic sub that had journeyed beneath the polar ice caps just one year earlier.

21 - Submarine Voyage Through Liquid Space  8:50

Tomorrowland's original Submarine Voyage took passengers on a deep sea adventure past coral reefs, a graveyard of lost ships, beneath the North Pole, through the ruins of the legendary lost city of Atlantis and past an underwater volcano, encountering schools of fish, giant clams, playful mermaids, a giant squid and a silly sea serpent.

22 - The Tomorrowland Yacht Bar - The Yachtsmen Quartet  1:57

Where the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant is located today, just a few steps away from the submarine landing, there once stood a nautically themed snack bar, and at the adjacent outdoor seating area was a small bandstand where a popular group of young folk singers, known as the Yachtsmen, made regular appearances.

23 - Circarama Theater - America the Beautiful Introduction  1:05

Circarama was an amazing film process that encircled the audience a complete 360 degrees. This afforded breathtaking panoramic views as never before captured in any motion picture medium. The original Circarama presentation of America the Beautiful first premiered  in 1958, taking guests on a scenic tour of the entire United States.

24 - America the Beautiful - Musical Score  21:58

The original 1958 version of America the Beautiful was musically underscored by a collection of sweeping patriotic anthems and popular standards representing varying geographic regions throughout the United States. These songs were performed by a full-scale adult choir, appropriately dubbed the Disneyland Chorus.

25 - The Disneyland Railroad - Tomorrowland Station  1:24

When the Grand Canyon Diorama was added to the Disneyland grand-circle railroad tour in 1958, a new station stop was added in Tomorrowland. The structure is one of today's few remaining remnants from the original Tomorrowland, other than a new marque added in 1998. Heard here are the original station announcements circa 1958.

Several newly orchestrated versions of the many original songs written for Tomorrowland over the years can be heard throughout Tomorrowland today. These regognizable compositions, by George Bruns, Buddy Baker, the Sherman Brothers and others, are characterized by their bright, peppy bounce and infectious optimism.
