The Disneyland Hotel was originally owned and managed by Texas oil tycoon Jack Wrather, and was obtained by the Walt Disney Company in 1988, but some things have remained consistent over the years: comfort, conenience and superior survice. 3 - Disneyland Hotel Tram  1:43

The free Disneyland Hotel tram offered resort guests front gate service to and from the Magic Kingdom every few minutes all day long. The original tram began operation in 1956 and continued to shuttle passengers even after the Disneyland Monorail line was connected to the hotel, offering an alternate mode of transportation until 2001.

4 - Disneyland Alweg Monorail to the Disneyland Hotel  2:42

The Disneyland hotel long had the distinction of being the only hotel in Anaheim to be directly connected to the Magic Kingdom via monorail. It was extended outside the gates of Disneyland and connected to the hotel in 1961 as it crossed the Disneyland parking lot, making this highway in the sky a true transportation system of the future.

5 - Music to Ride Monorails By  38:01

6 - The Monorail Room - Cocktail Lounge  16:03

Disneyland is, above all, a place for families, and a strict no-alcohol policy has always been enforced within park grounds. For many years, the closest spot to grab a cocktail was a small lounge conveniently located directly across from the Monorail loading platform at the Disneyland Hotel, which became a popular respite for moms and dads.

7 - Disneyland Hotel Fashion Show  2:56

Among the many special events hosted at the Disneyland Hotel throughout the early years, were a series of popular daytime fashion shows, often presented poolside or at the Gourmet Restaurant as tea time entertainment. Celebrities were often in attendance at  these posh events, soon becoming a "who's who" of the Hollywood elite.

8 - Embassy Ballroom - Bernie Bernard & His Orchestra  30:16

Ballroom dancing was once a popular evening event at the Disneyland Hotel during its early decades. The luxurious Embassy Ballroom hosted many well known Big Band Orchestra's, from Benny Goodman to Duke Ellington. In the early 1960's a live New Year's Eve album was recorded at the hotel featuring Bernie Bernard & his Orchestra.

9 - Top of the Park Lounge  6:51

Long before Walt Disney World had a "Top of the World" lounge at the Contemporary Resort,the top floor of the Disneyland Hotel's original tower had it own cocktail lounge, with spectacular views overlooking Disneyland and live jazz to provide the evenings entertainment. Today it is known as the "E Ticket Club" for concierge level guests.

10 - Disneyland Hotel Orientation - Jack Wagner  6:31

The Disneyland Hotel has always been a tourist destination in its own right, with unique attractions along its centrally located marina, and array of specialty shops, fabulous dining locations, and an eclectic blend of live entertainment. This resort orientation was presented as a special in-room TV broadcast for 1980's hotel guests.

11 - Seaports of the Pacific - Area Background Music  28:22

For decades, a large marina was located in the center of the Disneyland Hotel grounds, known as Seaports of the Pacific. Guests could rent paddle boats and cruise around the lagoon, or try out their navigation skills with radio controlled model ships. Surrounding the waterfront were unique shops, fine dining and a state of the art video arcade.

12 - Disneyland Hotel - Japanese Gardens  28:09

The Disneyland Hotel has always been more than just a place to stay; it has also been a place to visit, with its surrounding grounds offering many unique attractions. At one time this included a tranquil Japanese Garden, complete with bonsai trees, manicured rock gardens, pagoda bridges, cascading waterfalls and colorful koi fish.

13 - Hotel Convention - The Kids of the Kingdom  10:10

The Kids of the Kingdom often traveled outside the Kingdom to perform at special events and corporate conventions held right next door at the Disneyland Hotel. On stage at the Embassy Ballroom they showcased many of the popular shows also seen in the park, as well as special production numbers like the "World Friendship Medley."

14 - Disneyland Hotel Plaza Mall - Area Background Music  40:17

The "Voice of Disneyland," Jack Wagner, was also the voice of the Disneyland Hotel. As in the park, his duties included selecting the background music heard throughout the hotel. Much of the music chosen during his tenure was of the elevator variety, as often heard in hotel lobbies, airports and shopping malls during the 70's and 80's.

15 - Hotel Coffee Shop - Monorail Café Atmosphere Music  23:53

The original Disneyland hotel had a cozy coffee shop located near the Monorail station for decades. It was known simply as the "Coffee Shop" until 1986, when its interior was refurbished as a 50's style diner with a vintage Monorail motif. The café was removed in 1999 to make room for a major expansion of the Disneyland Resort.

16 - The Neon Cactus - Country Western Bar  37:43

During the wave in popularity of contemporary Country music in the 1990's, the venue that once staged the Sgt. Preston's live dancehall revue was remodeled as an all new location  for live entertainment, line dancing and Karaoke. This popular hangout for Anaheim locals closed in 1999 when Downtown Disney construction began.

- Dancing Waters/Fantasy Waters -

Long before Fantasmic and World of Color, the Disneyland Hotel hosted Disneyland's  very first water show spectacular, synchronizing music with towering fountains, cascading waters and special lighting effects. Originally known as "Dancing Waters," the show underwent many changes over time, eventually becoming known as, "Fantasy Waters," and every few years the program was revamped with an all new soundtrack.

20 - Disneyland Hotel Commercial - We've Got It All!  0:30

For decades, the Disneyland Hotel was not owned by the Walt Disney Company, but was a long time equity of the Jack Wrather Corporation. When Disney procured the hotel in 1988, a promotional campaign was launched to advertise the many amenities of this unique resort, including a 30 second television spot featuring a catchy jingle.

21 - The Disneyland Bellhops  12:07

With Disney's new proprietorship of the Disneyland Hotel, there was an effort to make the resort a part of every day guest's visit to Disneyland, which included in-park style live entertainment. A popular musical group was a lively brass quintet known as the Bellhops. They perform outside of Disney to this day as the Pacific Coast Horns.

22 - Goofy's Kitchen - Birthday Medley  4:45

Goofy's Kitchen is often cited as the best place in the entire Disneyland Resort to have breakfast, with an all-you-can-eat buffet and character meeting opportunity that can't be matched. It's also a fantastic spot to throw a birthday party. With Chef Goofy as your host, children are encouraged to dance around the room to the beat of happy music.

Upon the arrival of the bride and groom in Cinderella's carriage, they enter a beautiful rose garden complete with a Victorian gazebo. To correspond with two themed areas within the new Disney's California Adventure park, one newly refurbished and one newly constructed hotel premeired as part of a major property expansion in 2001. Resort TV provides guests with a wealth of useful information, including park hours, show schedules, Disney dining, how to avoid long lines and money saving tips. A resort overview provides an orientation for first time visitors, showcasing all the amenities of the three resort hotels and a preview of the many attractions found at both theme parks. Special bedtime stories also provide a kiss goodnight to the hotel's younger guests.

For many years this establishment was known as Granville's, named after former hotel owner Jack Wrather's wife, Bonita Granville.  Tangaroa Terrace is a popular new Polynesian restaurant located at the Disneyland Hotel. Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar is a popular new watering hole located next door to the Tangaroa Terrace restaurant. Trader Sam's has struck a cord with Southern California's community of Tiki culture revivalists, and many patrons have become regulars.  The three towers of the newly renovated Disneyland Hotel have each been renamed and re-themed after three of the original thematic realms inside Disneyland park. Originally known as the Sierra, Marina and Bonita towers, these luxury high rises are now the Fantasy, Frontier and Adventure. Each lobby has unique background music to further enhance the mood of these now very distinctive vacation destinations.
